In A Nutshell
Brookside Church is a community of people whose doors are open to all, no matter your spiritual background. We are a community who practices loving God and loving others. We are not a building or a name; we are a family moving closer to Jesus Christ and to one another. Our goal is to be the biggest gift the city of Bowling Green has ever had!
Seeks to glorify God
We desire for God to be glorified in all that we say and do at Brookside. We do not want to draw attention to any plan, person, or purpose. Instead, we will point to the life changing power of God so that He would receive the glory and praise.
(Matthew 5:16; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17; 1 Peter 4:11)
Multiplying devoted followers of Christ
A devoted follower is one who is continuously maturing in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We want to be a church that is growing and sending—entrusting the things that Jesus is teaching us through His word with others.
(Matthew 9:35-38; Matthew 28:18-20)
Know Him deeply
We desire for people to have Jesus Christ as their first love. They will live a life that is Holy and pleasing to Him.
(Romans 12:1-8; Ephesians 4:14; Revelations 2:4
Share Him broadly
We desire to build authentic relationships with others and share the gospel with them. We desire for the love and message of Christ to be shared with all people in Bowling Green and beyond. (Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 7:34; John 17:18; 1 Corinthians 9:19; 1 Peter 3:15)
In early 2000, several families from Bowling Green were driving to Findlay Evangelical Free Church each week (30 minutes south of Bowling Green). The distance made it difficult to reach out to Bowling Green and to feel part of the church community in Findlay. Having a heart to reach Bowling Green, they began to talk and pray about planting a church in Bowling Green.
These families began to discuss their ideas for a church plant in Bowling Green with the Findlay Evangelical Free Church. Of course planting a church would be incredibly challenging and yet they did not want to miss out on the adventure God was calling them to. By the summer of 2000, they were meeting Sunday nights at a local family's basement in Bowling Green, a core group. Brookside had its first public worship service on January 28, 2001 in the banquet center of Woodland Mall in Bowling Green.
In the Fall of 2002, Brookside church moved the Sunday Gathering to Olscamp Hall on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The move has been an amazing fit for the unique town and gown city; both university students and community members gather together. As the Sunday morning gathering continues to grow larger, Brookside also grows smaller through Community Groups. God has been graciously building Brookside and He is the Shepherd of our church!
Evangelical Free Church of America
Brookside is associated with the EFCA. The EFCA is an association of autonomous churches united by a shared doctrine and a joint effort to minister within the United States and around the world. Our association with the EFCA allows our pastors to be credentialed through the association and allows us to partner with other churches in ministry through camping, urban ministries, world missions, and church planting.
EFCA Mission Statement
Our mission statement, 'we exist to glorify God by multiplying healthy churches among all people,' drives our vision for the future of the EFCA. We envision accelerated growth in the number of Christ’s disciples and churches and the percentage of ethnic groups represented in the EFCA. We are committed to an EFCA that mirrors the demographics of the U.S., and reflects the "all people" God is redeeming.
