09/03/08 - Being Missional Part 1

We are called to have a tremendous amount of respect for those who do not believe the claims of the bible. Not only are we to respect people, but also I believe we must understand what it is like not to believe. Therefore this should infuse everything we do as an individual and as community of Christ followers. Do we understand the problems people have with the organized church? Do we understand how we are perceived by those who do not believe the same as we do? According to a recent book, UnChristian, the top six perceptions people outside the church have with the church are: the church is hypocritical, too political, anti-homosexuals, sheltered, judgmental, and just about getting peopled 'saved'. We must be aware of how we are perceived as we love the people we interact with on a regular basis.

In our conversations with individuals we must seek to not confuse people with Christian cliques or Christian jargon. We must constantly be aware of not creating an 'us vs. them' mentality. Lastly, we must not be confrontational (I know people will not like this phrase), but constantly straining to bridge the truths of the scriptures into the needs of individuals. Over the next several blog entries I will continue to unpack the reality of living missionally in Bowling Green and beyond.

I would love to hear from you if God spoke to you through the book of Ruth. Please send me you thoughts or comments about your journey though the book of Ruth.
